Abicare Dementia Workshops

We have exciting news!

In January 2022 we held our first ever Dementia Workshop – An Insight into Living With Dementia in Salisbury, which was presented by Rachel Flippance, who is part of Abicare’s Training Team.

Organised by Kerry Stevens, our Registered Area Manager for Salisbury and Basingstoke, the workshop was created for anyone who has a recent diagnosis of dementia, their family members or anyone wishing to work within Health and Social Care, giving an insight into how dementia is diagnosed, what symptoms a person may present with and how to support and care for someone living with Dementia.

We received such wonderful feedback –  One attendee thought the workshop was “a lovely thing to provide to the community” and many attendees found it to be “very informative and helpful”.

We had a number of attendees, including a group of A-Level Healthcare students who were about to complete a unit on Dementia. They found the workshop very beneficial in assisting them with their studies, and they were also interested in employment with Abicare. 

We also had a registered nurse who attended the session as part of her professional development. 

We had 2 ladies attending that had parents with a new diagnosis of dementia so they wanted to be more aware of what to expect and how to support their parents. They fed back that they had picked up some useful methods of how to manage confusion and repetitive conversation and we were able to signpost them to additional support services.

Due to its success we are excited at the prospect of hosting further dementia workshops in the future.
